Luke Fiedler wrote me a very formal email some time ago. He wanted me to do a piece for his girlfriend, Abhery. She is Bengali and very proud to be so. Her
daaknaam is Tia and Luke wanted a painting that would somehow include her name.
Over time, as the work progressed, Luke and I worked on the look and colour-scheme of the painting. A little nursery rhyme written in the Bengali script had to be incorporated. And transatlantic payment options had to be figured out (no mean feat, I assure you!). Of course, Abhery was not supposed to know any of this. The painting was a surprise gift on her 24th birthday.
After the painting was done, I sent it out all the way to America on blind faith. Talking to Luke during the whole process made me trust him enough to do so (I have been terribly wrong about this before). Thankfully, I was right about Luke, phew!
The next thing to be super tensed about was if Abhery would like her gift. I think I was just as, perhaps even more, nervous as Luke. What if she looked at the painting and thought it was the ugliest doodle ever?
I bugged Luke during his work hours about a lot of things, but mostly about what Abhery's reaction would/could/will be when she saw her gift.
Well, she liked it!!!
(How pretty is she?)
Thank you Luke and Abhery for sending me these photos! It means a lot to me :)
This made my day. Heck, month!
