Parvati

The idea for this sketch came when, months ago, when a prospective client (no worries, she didn't buy after all) wanted to commission a painting of Parvati, the Goddess of Shakti (power)  -- she is also an incarnation of Durga.

In Bengal, we worship Durga with all her children. We grow up thinking of her as a goddess of course, but for the elders, it's their "daughter" visiting her parents, and for young people she is a mother, taking a break from her playful daughters and sons.

After I made the sketch, I got so caught up with a full-time job and other family commitments, I couldn't start working on it. I knew this one would take a lot of time and a lot of patience. But I am happy to say, I have worked on it enough to give everyone a sneak peek!

Durga, invoked

Dusted out the cobwebs in the studio and worked on something. It's been a while since I painted anything, big or small, so just wanted to loosen up.

I have wanted to do something like this, but on a much bigger scale for a while now. This one is about 24 by 18, framed cotton canvas. Acrylic.
 Freestyle!

So, as promised, I am having a giveaway of one of my personal favourites. Durga in charcoal.

I know a lot of people come here for some art candy, but not many leave comments or messages.

Since the summer in Valencia

"Elena Mir was born one summer of the 80’s decade in Valencia, at the Mediterranean coast, a very important detail in her life, the reason of her attraction for being always close to the sea. In this city she grew up and studied Fine Arts at the University. Later on, she completed her formation at the Winchester School of Art in the United Kindgom...
Actually, Elena manages her own studio, Sr. Pulpo, and works in graphic, web and multimedia design. She also has time to write a blog about fashion, something she’s passionate for, and a familiar heritage.
Elena also spares some time to papercuts, installations, photography, sculpture and painting."

Ok, so she is really really accomplished. Let's get to her art, shall we?
Let the applause begin!

Dave Matthews, Sufjan Stevens and Methane Sudios

It's not that there's anything new about amazing art work on album covers/concert posters, just that Methane Studios produces the kind of  illustrations that I really really love.
They also work with some of my favourite musicians, and ya, that's a bonus for sure!

My kind of wall art

I dream of a house with lots of windows and sunlight streaming in, egg-shell white walls and lots of transparent glass accessories. Somewhat like this:

And what kind of art should the walls have??
Why, Blanca Gomez prints, of course! Imagine looking at these every time you pass by a wall or sit on your bed. Happiness :)

I haven't been a dirty girl

but 2012 is playing dirty already. And here I was hoping 2012 will be kind.

The year starts with a forceful takeover of my insides by these little buggers.

This guy is almost giving you the finger while he and his million friends make you poop and vomit every other second.

And these pretty little things can actually kill you.

O and these little charmers almost did kill me, in '06.

But it's amazing how pretty they look. Bacteria art.

On the plus side, my doctor is cute and he's actually cool enough to say, "you'll feel like crap".

It's a brand new year, and this time, I intend to keep my resolutions. It's going to be a new beginning, and everything is going to be alright. O yeah!
